COUPLES-FAMILY-GROUP
I have completed a five year training in Group Analysis, Family Therapy and Couples Therapy at the Hellenic Institute for Group Analytic and Family Psychotherapy - that works with the Tavistock Institute in London. Manto works with couples and families since 2013 at her office and other centres for psychological support. In England she worked for a program for drug rehabilitation (RAPt, the Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust) within the (Bullington HM Prison at Bicester, UK, doing groups.
ADULTS
I was trained for one year in Rational-Emotive and Cognitive Behavior Therapy with professor Wayne Dryden (student of Albert Ellis, the founder of REBT, Glodsmiths Univeristy. In London, Manto also completed her BSc in Psychology (City University, London). She attended three day seminar in Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, in Philadelphia USA, for children and adolescents, with Aaron beck founder of CBT being present himself (and his daughter Judith Beck). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Rational-Emotive Therapy are both evidence based therapies, for dealing with anxiety disorders and mood disorders such as depression, helping in becoming functional in everyday life.
This method challenges the way people think or interpret events, and the way they react towards them and how this prolongs the negative feelings. This behavior can be modified with the help of the therapist.
While living in England Manto worked for centres for psychological support and rehabilitation and also a centre for victims of crime and violence.. She specialized in helping people that suffer from depression, (mood disorders, that is major depression disorder, bipolar disorder etc.) and anxiety (anxiety disorders: panic attack, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety etc.).
ADOLESCENTS - CHILDREN
She decided to work with theater play as a therapeutic medium. She completed the Masters in Science in Theater Studies at the Open Univeristy of Cyprus, in Theater Education. Having also completed a year long training at the National Theatre of Greece in theatrical play for children and adolescents and in combination with play therapy techniques learned previously,I use these methods in therapeutic group sessions with children and adolescents where young people can "expose" themselves within a safe environment and work through their reservations. They work on personal and group targets depending on their needs.
In New York, in New York University, she completed a Master of Arts in Counseling, Guidance and School Counseling. While in New York, she practised in two different schools (Global Learning Collaborative, High School και Earth School, P.S.64 Elementary School) being responsible for children and adolescents in individual and group sessions. The children were concerned with issues of depression, anxietym or anger.
Conducting meetings with the parents, presentations in class etc. Also, I trained in working from Monorodi, in a Program of Behavioral Intervention for children and adolescents with Autism, Asperger’s and ADHD using ABA: Applied Behavioral Analysis techniques. Teaching self-management, social skills, setting goals and an intervention plan.
She works therefore, with children Autism and ADHD and others (like Tourette, tics etc.) on an emotional level and concerning behavioral problems. She has worked with children who needed support within the school environment (at a child care, kindergarden level and elementary)
Also she works with children and adolescents that may suffer for example by school phobia, anxiety, separation anxiety, attachment, depression, mourning, anxiety over school performance, or inappropriate behavior etc., in individual and group sessions.
